The building, before the name changed

Real photographs of 273/274 Aba Road — from its Claridon Hotels & Resorts years.

Why these photos exist

The only pictures of this address we could actually verify

Grand Tokyu Hotel’s own website is currently offline and it publishes no photo library, and its Tripadvisor listing has no photos or reviews yet. But the address has a history: 273/274 Aba Road traded for years as Claridon Hotels & Resorts, and a set of its photographs survives on Tripadvisor and the OTAs.

They are published here — plainly labelled — because they are the only genuine photographs of the building we could find. There are 12 of them: the frontage, the courtyard and pool, reception, the restaurant, four room categories, a sitting room and a bathroom. They show the property as it was, not necessarily as it is today: Grand Tokyu has since refurbished and rebranded it.

Read this before you book on the strength of these pictures. These are archive photographs of the building from the Claridon era. Room finishes, furniture, the restaurant and the pool area may all have changed since. For how the hotel presents itself now, see the rooms and gallery pages — and note that the marketing imagery there is explicitly illustrative.

Exterior

The Aba Road frontage

The cream facade and the two red arched gates that open onto Aba Road — the easiest way to recognise the building when you arrive.

The courtyard from above

Guest-room balconies wrap around a central courtyard, with a covered walkway and the property’s distinctive red-roofed crown structure in the middle of the block.

Pool

The courtyard pool

The small pool sits in the centre of the block, ringed by the room wings — exactly the layout older guest reviews describe.

Rooms

A standard room

The classic layout: a double bed with a runner, orange drapes, a wall-mounted television and a nightstand — the room most guests were given.

A twin room

Two beds, a dark timber headboard and nightstand, tiled floor and a rug — this room also shows the split air-conditioning unit and wardrobe.

Rooms

A larger room, with a desk

The bigger category carried a wider bed, a proper writing desk and a luggage bench — the room to ask for if you planned to work.

A suite living area with a television, a gilded armchair and gold drapes — the precursor of what the hotel now sells as its suites and apartment.

What we did not use

Photographs of Tokyu Grand Hotel off 22 Stadium Road — a separate hotel about 4 km away — or of any other Port Harcourt property whose listings happened to appear in the same searches. Where a photo could not be tied to 273/274 Aba Road, it was discarded.
